Wednesday

Today I have downloaded aol security.   It took a while because I had to go into the bowels of Norton.  Somehow, I have muddled my way into to it and got the aol settings right.   Its not rocket science but , rather computer science.

Yesterday I wrote a lot and then could not save.   The bar on the right wouldnt let me scroll down to the save button.  But today it is there.  I have been having trouble with the buddy list  disappearing and reappeaaring and it wouldnt let me do some things.  So I installed the newest version.   So for the pat 10 minutes it is ok.

My sister and I went to 2327 and  cleaned the kitchen.   We still havnt decided what to do about the paneling.   As of this time I cleaned the stuff with TSP which is recommended if you want to paint on stuff.   You will need a primer and then the real paint.   It will also need a new stove hood.  The new shower enclosure is sitting in the front room.  I hope my brother is indeed coming up this Saturday and we can get some of this stuff done.

It took my sister and I several hours to clean.  Also Tom hadnt washed the dishes for weeks.  We cleaned them up.  Looks like he doesnt have a plug for the drain, and it would have never occured to buy one.

Back to work.   Emily is working every evening.   That will give her some money and get her out of the house.    She is having trouble sleeping.  About 3 am I heard her stirring and went to see. She said that she slept from 12 to 3 am and then was awake.   She read her Rx can cause insomnia.   I will have to get her to call her doctor.

Saturday

A thought came to me this morning as I was drinking my morning tea.   It was so simple I wondered why I failed to analyze and realize this before.  It occured like a bolt out of the blue.   The trouble that my daughter and other kids of her generation is this:

THEY DONT  KNOW HOW TO BE POOR.

Althought they grew up in a middle class household and not wealthy by any streatch of the imagination, they have never wanted for ANYTHING.   I am beginning to see this as a diservice.  We strive to give them everything that we never had and wanted as children.   I grew up poor and never knew it.  By the time I got to high school and realized it, I decided at that point that I never, ever wanted to be poor.  So I made the decision to go to school and the go even further.  My husband was in the same situation as me.   We both know how to get along with less and spend only what we have.

The question is how to teach this at the age of 22?????     Now that I have identified the situation I will have to figure out how to solve it.   She has the basics of budgeting but cant put it into action...............

Friday

The last day of the week.  I did 3/12 this week.  Sometimes even with the time off I never get things done.   I seem to lack motovation.  With how many other people I ask?????    Chuck is sick, seems he has pneumonia, they used to call that  "the old mans friend"   That is when everyone died from it.   But now with the newer antiiotics the numbers are better.   Fortunatly when either of us are sick, we want people to leave us alone.   Some men want waited on hand and foot like they are the king of the world and they are the only person to have and be as sick as they are.   And they wnt the other to be at their beck and call............I would have to kill them.

A major storm is comig tomorrow.   Some where between 3 inches and 1 foot.  How can they prdict when the storm is over Iowa???????  I know one way of telling.   You just take what ever is forecast and it will be the opposite.  Meteorology is the only job where you can be wrong 50% of the time and still keep your job.......................

Tueday

Did you ever wonder about choices?   Why do somepeople make wise ones and some people make the worst in the world and keep repeating their present mistakes.   What is a person to do???

It is colder than a witches heart outside.  Last week at this time it was in the 60's and now it is freezing arse cold.  Had today off, took my daughters cat to the new vet.   She is scratching the furniture, and it is time to have her declawed.    I realy hate to do that but I don't have any choice.

I found out that my brother pitched out an antique Persian rug.   I had told the two of them specifically not to do that.   It was my grandmothers and she had bought it used and it was definatly over 50 years old because I remember it when I was a kid.    I still have the one from the upstairs bedroom and I want to take it to the dealer to have it sold.   I want to get a book or two out and  read about the rugs before I do.  What money I make I will devide among the siblings that didnt pitch it.  That really irks me.  Especially  because I told them not to do it...........

Tueday

It is early in the am.  Got home from work and was as tired as a dog (sled dog.)   Went to bed at 9, fell asleep and didnt wake up until 6:30 am.   I guess I needed the sleep.

E is going to a concert tonight.  It is in AnnArbor and about a 4 to 5 hour drive from here.  In the middle of January no less.  She is going to her friend Stephanies who live in Toledo and then to AA, it is about a 45 minute drive and all highway driving.   I hope she checks on the web site to make sure it is not cancelled.  I have to remind her this morning.

My brother Tom got his apartment and will move in Feb 15th.   Then the real fun will begin to get the place ready for sale.   We will all have to work realy hard to get this done.   The brothers will do the heavy work and the sisters will go the room cleaning and painting.  It should work out OK.   I have to go and buy the stuff for the repairs.  I am glad Lowes opened u nearby and I have check it out already.

Sunday

At the end if this day I think I got a lot accompished.  The planning stages at least.
Went to Lowes and priced paint.,  a BR vanity, and a tub surround.  The house will be painted in an off white.  I think it is called Linen or something like that.  Talked to my brother Bill and he is coming up the same week I am off.  I hope to get a lot of stuff done.   My father had alot of wires connected to God knows what.   He spent a long time putzing around and now I know what he was doing.   He earthquaked proofed the shelves in the living room.   To hold a small radio and small speakers he had 3 inch screws in the wall.  We may need a large amount of spackel to fill all the holes.   My sister and I will go on Thursday and clean the wall that havnt been painted since probably 1970.  I think they were painted in honor of my wedding.

My brother is working on the corroded plumbing and the water test is tomorrow.  I hope it is ol.   I hate to think that there will be more leaks  I took pictures pre and will take pictures of the procedure and when I am done.

Back to work tomorrow..........

Saturday

The computer has been moved.  Chuck installed a new phone line, the old one was in place but did not work.  Now, I am surrounded by cats.  Starting to move Es stuff out of the garage and I think that most of it will g into storage.   I know she will move out at some point and then all her things will be together.

She got her component system together.  The dvd that was hers will go into the bedroom temporarily,  the dvd recorded ws connected in her room in December.  When she leaves we will get it all sorted.

Going to 2327 tomorrow and see what will be done.

Saturday

It has been almost a week since the last entry.  The only downside of an online journal is that your descendants will never find it it your attic and have a window in time what a persons life was.

Emily has had another interview.  This one is for an asst, manager of a St Vincent DePaul store.  They called her to set it up.   The  woman said if she didnt get it there were positions in the retail store that she needed too.  The pt would been good since she needs to get 6 more credits and then she wants to think about grad school.  Law or Library is in the running.

I wish I had a place to put this computer, since E came home I need to move this and set it up somewhere permanent.  I have to unplug the phone and put the computer in that outlet and have no place for the printer.  I have another desk but that phone outlet is dead.  I know Chuck had it wired put it is not working.

Going to put out more applications today and start going thru boxes and getting them out of the garage.   I want to consolidate them and get them organized.

Sunday

So far things are going OK.  We discussed posibilities for employment.  E put in an application at the St Vincent De Paul thrift store.   The woman there gave her an interview on the spot.  She has to go to the PHS and have her transcript and Sats sent to the local CCAC.   She signed up for a History class, History and American Government. This might be useful is she goes to Law School.   I made a list of possible employment ideas.  It is my  ideaa that you take the first job you can to give ou money and then you can leisurely look for something more to your liking.

We have to do some furniture rearanging and upacking.  I want her to go thru her stuff (clothes, books, CDs and VHS)  We can take some of that stuff to half price books and get some money.  What is not bought we can give to the thrift store or library for a donation.    I also wan to go thru my stuff and items fromm 2327 to donate too.

Respironics (medical manuf) has an ad in the Pennysaver.  I have to ask Marie what the starting salary was.  They have 2 shifts and that would give her time to finish the last 6 credits this summer.   Plus she likes to sleep in and stay up late.

E has been searching the DSL and is willing to pay for it.  Wonder if AOL has the DSL.  Guess I will have to look for it. on the site.

Friday

It is way too early for anyone to be up but I am.   I am in the hotel room for the last night and the yahoos in the next room strolled inat 3:15, made a lot of noise and then left a half hour later.   I don't sleep well and now I am wide awake.  I got 5 hours sleep so I guess that will have to do.

I have been pondering about where to put my daughters stuff.  I think we need to buy a bigger house.  The three of us save things that should have been gotten rid of a long ago  I guess we save because we are convinced that we will need it at some point in time.

Right now my question is where to put my computer.   I had it set up in Emilys room and now she will occupy it.  I need a fourth bedroom.  I would like to have a guestroom  that  would double as a place  with a desk to set up my computer stuff.   I signed up for the digital photo class, and I plan to learn how to make cd and scan things.   Mostly the pictures from my childhood and the pictures of the Wild West Trip.   The class starts in February  I have to drive to ccac north.  But, it is on a Friday night so I dont have to worry about what time I  will get up the next day.

(The jerks in the next room have returned.  I think they are drunk.   Maybe I will make a lot of noise when I leave)

My family goal, I just have to convince the others. it to improve everyones health.   For Chuck it is to quit smoking (it was his idea)  and Emily and I to get some exercise and lose weight.  I think of it as a self improvement plan.  Chuck should get some exercise too to improve his cv status.  Exercise decreases the ldl and that would be good for him too

Thursday

Today we had a nice breakfast and then on to get this rounded up.   Spent some time cleaning out useless stuff and packing other things in boxes and bags.    I have been putting things that ae packed out in the dining room.

The thing that is left is the closet.  I have a suspicion that there are monsters in there.   I want to have everything packed up and all that we have to do is load up the truck.  I have yet to figure out what to do with the component system.   Maybe I can get the little components into one or two of the boxs.  The clothes can go into bags.

I had an idea that maybe Chuck can loft the bed and put things under it.  Maybe like the desk or some of her plastic units or book shelves.

He is sick and it wasnt the time to discuss the logistics of lofting.  Going back at 4 for round two.   I would like to go to the Middle Eastern restaurant for dinner.

Thursday

It has been a long week in the neve ending story.  Emily is coming home.  She made that decision early Tuesday morning.  She is stressed due to her being unable to find a job and out of money.

We will all have to work at making the transition.  I know we will get on each others nerves.   But, it can work.  First she will need to find a job and not leave dishes and food stuffs in her room.   The whole family needs to get some exercise, so hopefully we can get in a routine for that.   She also doesnt eat meat and she will have to plan her menus, and I can get the food and maybe we can prepare it together.   A lot of things we can use a side dish which can be her main meal.

That is about it.  I am in OH and this laptop is the best thing ever.  And aol, all you have to do is find a local number and dial AOL up.

The weather here is awful.  I hope we can get out on time tomorrow.  Called Chuck and he is sick, one of his uri's.   Sounds awful on he phone.

Saturday, January 1, 2005

Got the Christmas tree down and the decorations boxed.   That is a waste of energy.  I have lost my zest for Christmas decorating.   I did buy some boxes of red and green to put the stuff in.  So, now, it should be easy to spot in the attic.   That attic is so full of junk.  If I havnt needed it in the past year I will never use it.    I thought about going thru it, but decided to leave that for Emily to do when I die.   It will be payback for a the junk I had to cleanup of hers.   LOL LOL LOL

Tomorrow I am going to 2327 and see what needs to be done cosmetically to get the house ready for sale.   I also have a truck to sell, and none of the siblings want to buy it.   I would go fast if it were  a 4x4, but it doesnt go worth 2 cents in the snow.  Why he bought that I will never know.   He had a 4x4 before.  I guess he didnt want to spend the money.  Like he could take it with him.

That house hasn't been cleaned or the walls paineted since before I was married and that was 32 years ago.  It needsa lot of cleaning.  My nephew, Ricky said he would take some of the furnture when he gets his apartment in the fall.  He is in education and so far has failed his Praxis test.  I hope he passes the next time.  He has a lot of time and money invested in the last 4 years.
