friday

Another computer quandary.     I got the pictures from my vacation.   The problem is that my sister sent them in a zip file and I now can't open the file.   I saw them when I download them but why can't I open it on my desktop.

In my next life I will be real computer savvy.      Work was the pits today.  At 3 PM, when everyone had just left all hell broke loose.   Every room was a critical patient and problem had occurred.   We have a GI lab and we are finished at 2:30 because that person is needed in the main OR to relieve the daylight people.   Every day in GI is "Groundhog Day."    Who is going to be here, we still have x number of cases.   Everyday it is explained that we can't provide service after 3 because we are needed in the main OR.   WTF I know they will never get it.

Retirement is looking better and better.  The population as a whole is getting bigger and bigger.   We did a young woman who had GI reflux.   She had major surgery because of it.   WTF if she had lost 100 pounds she wouldn't have this problem.     I hope to be retired before everyone is over 250.    It is amazing the number of  young woman who are pregnant and are 250 plus.    These people will  not be here to see their children grow up.....I often wonder who is getting it on with these fat broads.   They couldn't have been that fat when they got married.

I am off for 3 days.   I wish it was longer.  Have nothing planned, just sitting on my arse and doing nothing at all.   My husband works tomorrow and daughter works the entire weekend.   At least she makes time and a half for Monday.   I guess I will have to send her to work with a food care package.   There will be 2 people and they are not allowed to leave the store.   Sounds like prison to me.

Wednesday

Latest adventure.   The cat survived her vet visit.  She had a tooth removed and the infection was in the bone. Had to put some kind of plug or graft in the hole.   She said (the vet,not the cat)  that Jenny had 4 teeth missing.   She has gum disease.  She WILL lose all her teeth.   This is quite unusual in a cat 3 years old.   I am trying to imagine a kitty tooth brush or kitty dentures.  Can't picture that......   I have to pick up the cat at 4ish.   Baby food tonight, antibiotics for 2 weeks, and then a dental diet.   It is a genetic predisposition for the bad teeth.   Maybe I should have put her on my dental plan.

Irked again by my health care company.   They denied my husbands I & D of an abcess (in the ER) and not an emergency.     But the biggest pain in the arse is that there is NOT a list of allowable emergencies.   WTF.   It is "what the layperson" would consider as an emergency.    An appeal can be filed.     They deny things but can't tell me what is allowed, what a bunch of BS is that??   And we both work in health care.     The people on welfare have the best policy.  When they get a bill they just throw it in the garbage.

I have just been searching for the picture of Jenny, who is to have a tooth removed but can't find the folder with the cats.   This is the one of Molly

I have spent the last two weeks working of this computer.    When I got back from vacation everything was good.   I got on it and then after some downloads from Windows it was restarted and then the trouble began................It was all f'ed up.

The main problem was I couldn't get on the internet and nothing worked.   I went into the bowels of this computer and clicked everything to start up. (msconfig.)  I got back the internet access.   Then I had to eliminate a lot of things and reinstall them.  Microsoft office and Norton.   Finally I resorted to reinstalling the disc that came with the computer.  Reinstall or repair.   Everything seems to be working except iTunes.   When I click on the link it doesn't go but if I go into My  Music it is there????    What is going on????   Or what is NOT going on.      I could pay someone to fix this but the damn computer is 3 years old and for that price I could get a new one, add a few hundred or so.

Tomorrow I have to take the cat to the vet.   She needs to have a tooth removed.  I hope on close insection it is only one......The problem is going to be keeping the cat NPO.    She will  just not get that.  When all the others are eating, she will be meowing..

Tuesday

There is something amiss with the journals.   I click on the link where I have been writing since 2004  and the add entry does not come up.   Just the part where you can read it...

Work is the pitts.   Morale is low.   When the head of the department gets rid of someone because he doesn't like her we all wonder how long before he decided he doesn't like one of us and puts us on the chopping block????

I only have till next March and then a few months till I am 62.   I have to make a change.  I can't stand it anymore.   They came up with a offer to sign on for one more year and get 10K.    Sometimes it is not worth it.   I hope no one signs and they start to squirm.

Sunday

This was taken in June on one of my shopping trips with my sisters.   Just sniff the lilacs.  This is the last week of the summer.     I am looking forward to the coolness of autumn.

But not the snow of winter.   If the weather could stay like October for most of the year I would be happy.   We are getting ready to go out and eat.   Have to go early since this is a sports bar and the Steeler crowd will be coming in to watch the game which starts at 8pm.

I am still trying to figure out how my AOL download disappeared.

Saturday

This chicken was taken by my good friend Ruth.   She was on a education trip to Bermuda.  I guess it is a Bermudian rooster.   I guess it is a rooster.  They look the same as the American ones.   She had a lot of pictures and they were all good.    Looks like a trip I would have liked to taken.  Except for the airplane ride.

I found a recovery disc and it said for reinstallation or repair.   The old things stayed and I hope things are repaired.   I got on AOL OK, but I haven't gotten down to the nitty-gritty of seeing what and what doesn't work.  Guess I will continue to delve into this misama.

Saturday

The ground looks straight but the lighthouse looks crooked??????

It is early am and I am just trying to figure out the computer mess.   Maybe I should just eliminated everything and restarted.   But, it is quite a challange to delve into the bowels of the computer and try to fix the computer.   But figuring out what is going on or going wrong is a real challenge.

I have to be persistant and keep on.

Friday

Here is a picture from the house that my sister rented.   I think it would be a nice one.   It is only three bedrooms and I guess it could be called a cottage.   This is really away from all the honky tonk  I would like this.

Work is the same.      My compter has been so messed up.   I could have some one do it, but, it is three years and I don't want to spend half of what a new one would cost.   I got the Office reinstalled,  Norton reinstalled. and the photographs prorams are working.   The problem is now the iTunes,  I tried to delete it and reinstall but it won't let me.  Send me a message that a late version is installed and it can't override it.   WELL I can't find this other version...........I have made this a project for now.

Work is the same.....I am tired of it.....I am on beeper call tomorrow and who knows what will happen.   Also I had a link for writing in my journa but now when I click on it I get the version that some would see to read.........????????   I think poltergeist have taken it over....

Wednesday

"I have noted that persons with bad judgment are most insistent that we do what they think best."
Lionel Abel

I have spent more time with this computer than I deemed necessary.    It hasn't been working since Sunday.   I was at my wits end, also my patience.   I worked on it when I came home on Saturday and it downloaded updates.    Sunday morning it was in the Outer Limits.   I had to resort to msconfig and enabling all the start up items.  Then searching the lines and deleting what wasn't necessary.

One of the main problems was Norton.   Some part of it wasn't working.  After consultation with Vijaya I deleted and reinstalled.   It is still getting updates.   I hope this works.   It was saying No Intruded Detection.   Sort of like:  "Danger, danger Will Robinson!!!!!!"    I hope this solves that particular dellema.  If that is spelled wrong the spell check didn't come up with any useable ideas either.

Two more days of work.    Norton is making a career of this download.   Nothing new.   I didn't take too many pictures on vacation.   We took only one car.  And although I could drive my husbands it just wasn't the same as driving my own.   Don't know when I will to to The Outer Banks again.   The traffic was terrific, to quote Home for the Holidays   There is a drive to install a new bridge.  This would cut of one hour of drive time.    Guess I will go to the web site and electronically sign the petition.....

Monday

Who knows if this will allow me to save.   Yesterday I wrote an entry and it would not save.         I think the problem maybe Norton.....I keep getting messages from it.  and the intruder alert is ;not covered.

Good Grief

My thoughts today is my computer is unoperational.  My b-inlaw   was helping me with  a program deleted and reinstalled and it was ok until I restarted it yesterday.   He said I had a lot of things I didn't need and that I did but now I can not get on the internet and a lot of programs are gone.   Along with my iTunes music  (which I had backed up) and it doesnnn't recognize the external hard drive.

I am so frustrated I can't use the damn thing.

Gone for a week.

"I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence but it comes from within. It is there all the time."
Anna Freud

I tried to add to this journal while away, but just couldn't do it.   It is a pita trying to use someone else computer.   And not know the link to ones journal.   The trip was looooooooooooooooong.    We first went and spent Friday at my brothers in VA and then the next day we went to the shore.   The ride down was uneventful till we got to the route 158 onto the outerbanks.   That was bumper to bumper.   And then the 20 mile ride up the island went by in super slo-mo.   I will not stay at that end of the island again.

The house was something out of the Griswolds Family Vacation.   The house itself was nice.  BUT.........I have a better stream of urine than the flow of the water.   You can't have two people using the water at the same time.    Now, the only problem is that this house has seven bathrooms and one half bath....   With 18 people staying there the chances are that more than one at a time is going to happen.     Also there is water in the kitchen, laundry and my brother playing pool boy.  He must have an obsession about filling up the pool.   I couldn't care about the pool level    Three days a week someone is scheduled to come and service the pool.   So everytime the flow was low or gone I had to check what he was up to.     The problem is that there is a well and the owner refused to connect into the city water.  Cheap SOB.  We won't go back to that house.

On the second day the A/C quit.  95 degrees outside.   The A/C man filled it up and said there was a leak at the compressor.   To my surprise it was replaced the next day.  Second day with no A/C.     Then that night the blower unit was leaking and the rug outside the closet was wet.   Then water was dropping on Emilys head.   But the biggest problem was the blender didn't work and we couldn't make Pina Coladas, or any other of frozen concoction.   My brother complained.   Maybe we will get some rebate.....I hope so we were all aggravated enough.

I hope to down load the pictures today

Thursday

OHIOPYLE FALLS   This morning had a nasty round of storms.   Word  has it that is was up 3" of rain.   Now I hear the rumble of another round.   It is dark and the lights are flickering.  Guess they could go out.   I hope not.   When it gets closer the cats will run and hide.

I got today off.  My pto is finished till I accumulate some more.    Off next week.  Going to the shore.   I plan to take more pictures and hopefully download them with a minimum of fuss.

Well, now the cats are running and it is time to sign off.

Other than scanning the whole batch there must be a way to get them to line up.

I guess if they were scanned askew they stay askew.    It was hard for me to tell if the picture was straight.  Most of the early scannings were not.   Then in a thought of genius or idiocy  I decided the way to go was to align the stupid picture with the edge of the scanner and low and behold it worked.  Why didn't I think of this sooner.

This sort of reminds me of Halloween.   Last weekend I saw for sale,    Halloween things.   I guess Christmas catalogs are around the corner.   I guess chicken corn will be on the grocers shelves next week, or maybe even this week.  I like the thoughts of the cooler weather but it is a bit too early for chicken corn.

Work was slow this day.  Some of the ortho guys are out of town.   I have to get up of my derriere and plan my packing list for vacation next week.    We are leaving on Friday and will drive to VA and then on Saturday go to NC.   I have been checking the forecast for NC and a few of the days has scatteed thunder showers.   The temperature is forecast to be in the low 80's.   It remains to be seen.

My daughter informs me that she didn't know what chickencorn was.  She knows it as candy corn.  So there.........

AOL Video Blog Wanted to see how this works

Sunday

This is sort of eerie.  This was taken atop the highest mountain in  TN.  Or maybe it was NC.   Anyway.   The Highest mountain in TN is Clingmans Dome and NC is Mt Mitchell.  Itw as definaly in the Great Smokies.   I saw some pictures of the area about 120 to 100 years ago.  The mountains were denuded; the lumber had been used for buliding.  I am glad it has reforested.    Nothing worse than naked hills and mountains.

The time was October and the day was bright and sunny.   Then out of nowhere this fog and chill descended up the apex.   It got cold and snow flakes appeared.  The pine trees are dead from  the Pine Borer Beetle.   This is a problem in the south.   The high temperatures and drought conditions seem to propel the rise in this beetle population and destruction of pine trees.  I wonder if that is also an illegal immigrant hitchhiking bug pest?

Back to work tomorrow.   I am working four days in a row and then onto  to the NC shore.   I am looking forward to the time off but not the drive.  I think we will avoid the DC beltway.  That has to be the craziest place in the USA to drive.   They all drive like maniacs.

I have my hardrive  almost full.   60 G looks like a paultry amount these days.  Today I moved the pictures from yestersays scans to the hard drive.  I didn't really move them I copied them.  It will get to a point that I will have to start to delete somes files frommy PC.  But, like Scarlett, tomorrow is another day.

Saturday

This is also a village in Maine.  We took a boat ride out to an island (French Island???) and there was a quaint village.  Things were sort of retro... They had a one room school house and by high school the kids were "boated" to the mainland.   I think they were housed there for the week and then "boated" back home for the weekend.    I don't remember what happened in the winter.   Maybe they stayed there when the weather was bad.     They also had white tailed deer.    The deer were so small, and I guess a sub species (if that is what they call them.)  Because of the decreased amount of food they didn't develop like the ones on the mainland.   I didn't see any of them.

I need a break today from the scanning.   I want to go to the farmers market and get some tomatoes.   I would like to have a garden with flower and tomatoes.  I talked about it but never got around to do it.   I guess I find the planning (easy) and the implimentation (hard) to be overwhelming.   I know you have to dig and start the beds.  My father used to do that and I would watch.  But I can't get started.  Maybe because it is easier just to buy the tomatoes......

Friday

Did you ever wonder how long it would take to scan thirty years of pictures and put them onto the hard drive????    I really don't have the answer because it has been hours and I have selected only what I consider the best and the end is no where in sight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I also have many pictures and slides that are my dads.   I hope he doesn't get mad in the hereafter when he finds that I didn't record the snapshot information on each jpg.   He had all these notebooks of ASA, f-stop, shutter speed and atmosphereic conditions.   I didn't keep them !!!!!

I have just gotten done with most of the "recent" photos and still have a way to do.   My goal is to put them on DVDs.    They will hold a lot more than CDs but I don't have a DVD burner.   Emily and Chuck have DVD burners, so...........I plan to connect the external hard drive and then burn them.

I did get an external hard drive (on sale) and it has 500 G of memory.   I have a lot of pictures that I took, in case anyone wonders why I am not in many of the pics.   The photographer seldom gets in the shots, unless they have a tripod and a timer.   I do have a tripod but exactly where is it??????

This picture is the Bass Head Light In Acadia National Park in Maine.   I would like to go back.  My idea would be to leave about September 15 and drive and take pictures of New England.   Drive along Route 1 and stop in the little Maine Coastal Towns.   Maybe someday..........

Word of the Day: Pansophist (noun)
Pronunciation: [pæn-'so-fist]

Definition: Someone who leaves the impression that they know everything; a "know-it-all."

Usage: Today's noun may be used as an adjective, too; the noun is "pansophy" ['pæn-sê-fi]. Like pansophists themselves in the era of specialization, this word has become a rarity. It does retain a certain usefulness though and, like all our words, provides a few more threads about where we come from and how we have changed.

With all the people in the world i am surprised it isn't more commonly used.
