Sunday

Looking closely at my brothers I even see a resemblance of them and the Schridde family.  Guess I have to go to Germany to look for people who look like us.

Saturday

This is a picture of my brothers from about thirty years ago.  When did we all get old???  Time just goes by so fast, not so slowly into the future.......I guess that song was from thirty years ago  I post a more current picture of the sibs at some other time.

Just had a neat google feature shown to me by by daughter.   You go to www.google and then you his images and then type in what you are searching for.  And presto a multitude of pictures  will appear.    You can gaze at them for eons.    I was looking for a map of Ireland with its counties.   And they did have many of them , along with pictures of Ireland.   I then did the same for Germany.   I am not getting far with my ancestry.

I am stuck on the great grandparents.  Two of them are in Germany.  I will post their pictures.....The two that are in PA I got most of my information from the census and just can't find their records of when they immigrated.......I really would like to know how some of these people can trace their family back to Charlemagne.  I can't seem to find any relevant records to search.  What I read is that you have to know where the came from and to what church they belonged.   That is the enigma for now.............  Here are Frau and Herr Bartels.  He looks like he has on his German face for sure.....

Well, another addendum.  I tried to put the Schridde family down here with the Bartelsbut it didn't happen.    So, up above on the left is the Schridde family.  The soldier in the middle is my grandfather Willi.   His sisters namer were, Minna, Una (Oona??), Johanna, Lily and  ??????.  I also do not know the names of my great grandparents.  But I sure have their picture.........The spookiest thing is the woman sitting, third from the right looks like me.    Maybe there is something to the gene theory...????

Light bulb

Did I mention my light bulb????    Doing my part to save the earth I read the information on the "new" light bulbs.   Low energy, lower cost and will last 7 years !!!!!!   Sound wonderful, doesn't it????

The light bulb was out.....I wrote to the light bulb company.  I stated that their 7 year light bulb didn't last 7 months........Plus, that bulb (and others I suspect) has mercury vapor.    How am I suppose to dispose of this bulb.   They said they would send me a new light bulb (which they did) and to dispose of it I was to contact my state department of enviormnmental protection......

I did install the bulb, and haven't gotten around to notifying the state.   Surely they must have a recycling program for those bulbs>>>

Wednesday

Another askew picture of mine.

"Wit is a treacherous dart. It is perhaps the only weapon with which it is possible to stab oneself in one's own back."

Somehow the photo look straight when I put them on the scanner.   I haven't scanned anything for a long time.   Still trying to get this computer working correctly.   I will not give up on it.

Nothing new in my life.  SSDD at work.   Everything is the same, only the names changes but the crap is constant.   One year and 21 days till I can retire.  I am starting to sound like Vivian, who started the countdown about five years before.  She retired at 62 and hasn't regretted it at all.   My hero.

Have to get blood work for my surgery and the oil changed in my car.   I will be off for three weeks.   It is really bad when you are looking forward to an operation to get some time off.  LOL LOL.

Sunday

Here are my sisters and I 30 years ago.   I have one of my brothers too.  This is just before my sister ran off and got married.   That was a trying time in my life.   I was living in Europe and my youngest sister was still living at home and walking on a phyysological tightrope.   My father thought he was always right.  He didn't talk to her for about 5 or  years after.  Till his buddies at work told him he was wrong (now that was a really new concept) and they should get over it.  They did but I don't think things were ever the same.    As he got older he still thought he was right and tried to control the lives of the children who were in their 40's nd 50's.  Go figure that......  Guess he had real control issues.

It is hot, hot, hot.  September is suppose to be mild and it surely has not been.  Back to work.   Our department is interviewing for a new assistant chief.   One of the interviewees was asked what she would do about the OT situation. ( we don't have it if we don't want it)  She said she would make it mandatory.  She won't make any points with us.    This is the same broad who's husband filed for divorce because she was having an affair with one of the students.   Just who I would want in charge..........I am glad I only have one year and  26 days till I can retire.   I plan right now to look elsewhere and do two 10's or the time being.

I am going to have my foot operated on.   It hurts most of the time.  But even more after I have been on my feet all day at work.  The floors are terrazzo.  I will be off for  weeks and then go to a meeting in Williamsburg VA.   I think I am going to have company.

Going to TRIVIA tonight.   Had a test run last week.  We came in third, but we only had four players.  The group that won had twelve............Tonight will be better.

At long last

I got the old relic going.   Went into (somehow again)  and did a system restore.  This took a few restorations, and finally got one that worked.   It still needs a bit of fluffing up.

Then I went into msconfig and and added all the start up files.   Then I could get connected.  I went back and eliminated the things I  really knew I didn't need.   So at this point in time it is working.  At long last.   Microsoft can put their updates where the sun  doesn't shine.    The could help me but it would cost me.  What a crock of crap.

Sunday

This is Henry and  Lucy.    The past few days have grueling.  I left early on Friday to attend a wedding in Knoxville TN.   The weather was fine until I was half way down into  WVA.   Then it started to rain.   I was stuck on I77 for over an hour because of some accident.   I saw firetrucks and 3 ambulances go down.  I guess they took the victims to Princeton, because they never came back up.   It was raining so hard that the wipers were on top speed.   I was going slow in the right lane and a lot of yahoos were going over 70 in the left lane.   It was an eight hour trip that took eleven and a half hours.

The wedding was nice and I was so tired.  I think I exhausted a lot of psycic energy caught in the rain, almost getting hit going into the hotel parking lot and scraping my new wheel trying to avoid the above person who almost hit me.

It seems like my karma if off.  Guess I will have to do more good deeds to right it again.

I was glad to get home.   Got up early and got on the road.   The weather was dry for this leg and it took me eight hours this time and no near misses.  Traffic was actually light.  I am beginning to feel that I shouldn't be doing all this driving.   It is just getting tireing for me.

I have off tomorrow and Tuesday.  I will just have to rest up.

Monday

I thought today would be cooler.   I was waiting for one of those clear, crisp autumnal  days.   It is still warm and humid,  as well as cloudy.

Work was uneventful....Good thing.   It was a nice day when everyone was relatively healthy and their anesthesai and surgery went well.

I have two email on the possibly repair of my computer.   I won't be able to get to that till next week.   Tomorrow is a tres busy day.  Starting at 08:30 with the dentist and ending with a hair appointment at 5 pm.    This weekend is going to be a whirlwind.  I am tired just thinking about it.  Wednesday will be late, Thursday Trivia starts again and Friday, Saturday and Sunday I am on the road again.

The computer will have to wait till Monday at the earliest.

This was one of the weirdest things I have heard lately.  It is also very scary.   I was working in the GI Lab and one of my patients was a young guy.  We had a conversation about his occupation and he said he was going to Nursing School on line. I then asked how he did his clinical experience and he told me he didn't have to because he was a paramedic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOW, IN ALL HONESTY.   WOULD YOU BE COMFORTABLE WITH THIS PERSON TAKING CARE OF YOU???????    That would be like getting your MD on line...........Or  getting a teaching degree without student teaching.....  Save us!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday

Nice picture of the Pittsburgh skyline.  I have gotten an email from Microsoft on ideas how to resolve my computer dilemma.  There are four links so who know which and if any will work.   Guess I have to work with two computers  One for reference and the ailing one.   This will be good.........Maybe I could make my second career computer repair for idiots (like myself)  who have screwed them up royally.  But actually, I took it in good faith that Microsoft was trusted in sending me updates.

I am suppose to go to the Irish festival today and the forecast if for rain.   The only time I like to get wet is in the shower.    The weather channel looks like the rain is headed right my way.  The rest of the week will be cooler and I am driving to Knoxville this Friday.

My friends daughter is getting married.  Emily couldn't get the time off.   So I will go it alone.   This is a 8 hour drive and the car is new.    I have not decided whether to listen to my iPod.   (Thank you Subaru for the auxillary port)  or listen to a book on CD.   There are a lot of books on casette tapes.  Now, honestly, what year was the last one you saw a casette deck in a car????

Thoughts

Just a few good quotes

"Failure is not the only punishment for laziness; there is also the success of others."

"Tell me to what you pay attention and I will tell you who you are."

Saturday

Today is cooler than it has been.   I am just waiting to go out to lunch with my lady friends.

I got irked today by Sylvania.   I bought a lot of those energy saving lasting seven years light bulbs.   The stupid light bulb didn't last seven months let alone seven years.   I wrote to them and told them of my unhappiness.   Also told them I would not buy that product again, and also I didn't save my receipt since in good faith I had no reason to believe that it would burn out.    Also, the biggest thing is how do I dispose of this light bulb.   They contain mercury and if every one disposes of them in the garbage the mercury levels will increase.  We will be poisoning ourselves with our eco-friendly lights.   I asked them how does one dispose of the now defunct light bulb???   Made in China no less.   The email will probably be read by someone in China to boot.

Still having problems with my computer.   I sent an email to Microsoft because I was unhappy with them also.   My troubles started when I installed the Windows updates.   It will not start.   It will go and let me sign in and nothing happens at the start menu.  I can access and have it run with the computer in safe mode,  I can network in safe mode.   My things are still stored on the hard drive.   The fan runs nonstop at high speed.   The ati drivers are missing   (WTF??????)   I can not turn the computer off except pushing the off button manually.   I am awaiting an answer with  anticipatory job from Microsoft.     I realize the computer is three years old, but it meets all my needs.   I am wondering if this is Microsoft's idea of planned obsolesces and hope people will just think the compter is shot and buy a new one.    I have dogged determination and as my husband says  I am dangerous when I get "a hair up my ass"

I know I will have explanatory emails on Monday.  HA

Friday

This is making me crazy.  I hate this computer.  I hit keys and things go who knows where.   They just seem to dissapear.   Into cyberspace.

Work really sucks, the head of our department approved  for some of the surgeons to start at 06:45.    Wait till they all get wind of it and everyone will want to do that.   We don't think for one moment that we will get out one hour earlier.  It is just a forced overtime.   Also rumor has it that EVERYONE has to go to the mother ship to observe hearts.   ALL i HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT IS ONE YEAR, ONE MONTH AND TWELVE DAYS TILL I CAN RETIRE.  They came up with the idea to give $10,000 sign on bonus if you reup for another year.   All they have to do is quit eliminating things they promised and treat us with a little   respect.  I don't think anyone signed on.......

The freaking computer is another issue.Since I downloaded updates from microsoft it quit working.   It will only start in safe mode.  The fan runs high and continually, the ati driver is missing, I can't turn off the computer.except with my finger.  And it doesnn't run.   I sent them a email to their help line.  For what ever good that does.  It did make me feel better.

Thursday

It is so HOT.   How long will this heat wave continue????   Didn't get much acomplished today.    Still perusing computers.   I would like to find one with XP but the ones I find are refurbished....I am skeptical of them.   Because I have the mind set of something was wrong with them and will it go wrong again   Maybe if you are some computer teki guru that would be ok.      Tomorrow is the last day of my work week.    And I am glad.

I feel sort of in a watery mood.   Feel like crying since the demise of my computer.   I tried a system restore in safe mode and that did not help.   Now I am running Norton virus scan, I do not have too much hope for that one either.  I think it is a hardware issue.    I am most thankful  (thank you Kim Komando) that I have most of my things backed up on an external HD.   Just a few things missing, but not life or death important.  I wonder if I can move them to a disc in safe mode.   The cd reader doesn't seem to be working either.

I have been perusing computers in the Sunday paper.   Got a rain check for one,   they advertise these things and then they are sold out.   Don't they know people want these????    Have to look around but at least I have the rain check.

Tuesday, September 4, 2007

I am bemoaning the computer issue.  All of a sudden it stops working, and starts doing weird things.   I really do not think it is haunted, but it is getting on my nerves.   I am typing this on the new laptop, but it isn't mine.    I like the way I have it set up and it is a nice small size.   An inaminate object is controling my mind.    It is three years old and I do not want to reinstall everything.  Maybe emily is right and it is a hardware issue.

"To do all the talking and not be willing to listen is a form of greed."
Democritus of Abdera

Just checking the forecast map  Next week it looks like highs in the 70's   Maybe fall is indeed coming.

Monday, September 3, 2007

Still haven't found the cat folder.  Jenny had five teeth removed.   The vet said it is a matter of when, not if the rest of the teeth will go.   Just a genetic predisposition for decayed teeth.   Poor thing, there is fluoride in the water.   She is doing well thought.  She had pain medication or three days and has to take antiobiotics.  I got the in liquid form.  How was I ever to shove antibiotic caps down the mouth of a cat who had five teeth extracted.  I was difficult enough pre surgery.

Jumping thru hoops

The coolness from this photo is looking mighty fine.  I am still jumping thru hoops to add to his journal.   I got a help email from AOL but I have to print it and I am sitting on the couch not attatched to the printer.   Guess I will have to get up and run it off.

Back to work tomorrow......When my daughter was little she told me that when she grew up she wanted to be like her grandma and grandpap who didn't do anything except spend money.     I WANT TO DO THAT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I turned back on the A/C.   It is to go up to the high 80's this week and be humid.  I REALLY am tired of hot weather.   I could never permanently live in the south.   I think I could live in New England.

One of my goals in life (or retirement) it to go on an extended New England vacation.   I would leave about the middle to September and go there in the fall.   I want to drive along the Maine coast and stop at Inns and take pictures.   I won't have a time table and just go and stop when I want.  Now, all I have to do is get Chuck to go along with the plan.   I also want to see the Grand Canyon.

"We neither get better or worse as we get older, but more like ourselves."
Robert Anthony   This is what I have always said.  People who are miserable when they are old were miserable when they were young.

"I have always felt that the moment when first you wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the 24 hours. No matter how weary or dreary you may feel, you possess the certainty that .... absolutely anything may happen. And the fact that it practically always doesn't, matters not one jot. The possibility is always there."
Monica Baldwin   This is wasted on people whose brains do not engage till after noon.

"Work isn't to make money; you work to justify life."
Marc Chagall

One time I went on a job interview.   The HR person asked me (One of those types of pick your psyche question)   "What motivated you to get up in the morning?"   I told her MONEY.   Guess that took her by surprise.  Then as the interview went on (I thought it was a lot of psycological corporate bull shit)  She told me what the starting salary was.   (Much less than I was making pre interview)   I told her "Honestly, I am making much more than that now and I would like to end the interview since I felt we were wasting each others time.  Thank you for your time."  End of interview   After a few weeks I saw the same place in the paper ad with "Updated" salary schedule.    Guess they finally saw that light.

Bowels of AOL

Now, this is a real mug shot.    THis was taken on the last day of my vacation.  These are all the relatives who stayed in out house.   My sister and her family was down the coast so she didn't get in the pic.

I have to go thru the bowels of AOL to get on this journal.  I  have he place bookmarked and just would click on add an entry.  Now that feature is no here.   I am to get a replay with in 24 hours.   Most likely from 8,000 miles away.  I found it easier talking to the help on line.   I guess it is easier from both ends when the problem of accents do not get in the way.

I am off for three days and only work 3 days next week.  Friday was a circus.  I thought Ringling Brothers stopped by at 3 pm.   Just all of a sudden everyone had a problem and all the patients had a problem too.  It seems that the most sick show up as add-ons and they ususally are done when most of the staff goes home and help is limited.   We really get the sickest, critically ill patients at night.  I think they are sick all day and realize that they aren't getting better and show up at 9 at night.
