Lazy Saturday

And to the people who read my journal maybe you could do the St Jude Novena too.......I will take all the help I can get.

I listened to talk radio this morning......The man talkin was the owner of an oil company.  He thinks that the gas will go to $3.00-3.50 a  gallon.    He said that the problem started when gas was listed as a "commodity"   The price of gas is centered around "projections"    There haven't been any refineried build in this country for 30 years  We are not allowed to drill for oil because of the enviornmentalists.  Maybe the tree huggers would  be willing to foot the bill  for the gas for the country.

I think we are heading for a great depression.....People in the country use oil to heat their houses and a lot of them ae lower income.   All this talk abut people on a "fixed income."   I work and my income is "fixed" too.   The only ones in the state of PA who get raises are the state legislatures...........that is another rant in itself.

I guess I have to start writing to the Represenatatives and Senators of this country.   The oil companies are maing record profits this year over the 44% they made last year.  It ought to be declared a utility and be regulated.   They broke up Standard Oil 100 years ago, maybe it is time to take action again.

Good News

We could all use good news once in awhile.   My brother, who is 53, works at the 911 air base.   He will not be losing his job.   The base is to realigned, but not closed.  There is nothing worse than working all your life and find out that it is gone.  This would have also affected his pension.   Now I hope he can retire before someone decides to close it again.

Haven't done a whole lot this week.   It was kind of a slug week.   Emiy heard from the Westmoreland Symphony and she will be auditioning.  She also contacted Johnstown but that is one and a half hour drive.  I will have to start the St Jude Novena.

Wednesday

The week is now half done.   I dowloaded AIM.   Unchecked that stupid weather bug that I couldn't get rid of the first time.  It took a lot of time to do that as well as get rid of the Weather channel.    Every time I would click uninstall the computer would freeze.   Found the solution to delete it from setting up when I signed on.......That took a lot of research but I was able to do it.......It annoys me that you have to read the miniscule fine print when you down load these things.   You also need a law degree to help you with your choices in accepting things in them......

Little errands to do today. But it is to early to start them as of now.....

Wireless

Another day looking for my program.   The search found 2 folders, but when I clicked open  the compter said that it couldn't do it.........Grrrrrrrrrrr.  I was on the web site and still couldn't find what I wanted.

Guess I will just have to wait until the tech guy comes.....

Monday

Back to the drawing board.   Got a call from the isp.  Because of the storms the installation of the network will be delayed.  I also have to wait for the router to arrive by mail to my house.

At least I have one line that I can persure the net.  Daughter will just have to deal with it and Chuck can use my computer.  We will just wait till 9/7.   That is not too long away.

On a lighter and brighter note, it is COOL out side.   It has been this way since this morning.   I have the windows open and a cool breeze from the north is coming.

I will be glad to see the fall.  And it is not too far away.....

THE EAGLE HAS SPLATTED

After being momentarily connected and trying to start to connect the others I lost my wireless connection.   This was with the new wireless. I spent 5 hours yesterday and 4 today talking to the subcontinent of Asia.    I still, after talking to tech support, have not been able to get wireless connected.   My left ear has a pressure sore.   I have been thru this computer and back entering numbers and clicking.

I am seriously contemplating calling my senator and representative and asking them to sponsor a bill that if you have business in this country that you should have people who their native language is English to  be avaliable for consultations.   I am sure that the other are knowledgable but the language communication is the major problem.  To corporate  America:      You only get what you pay for and in this case it isn't much.

Next on to my phone company Alltel.   They only have tech support in the USA.   Thank you Jesus, and Alltel.  The Alltel tech guy got me connected to the modum and I am now on line with an electronic umbilical cord.   I took the rounter back to Circuit City and told them it was a POS, the young guys laughed.  I told them they could quote me and write that down too.

Found out from Alltel that for $30, the will come and install my wireless network for all the computers.   I just have to buy their router and it is the same price as CC.  They are coming on Wednesday.   Last night I would have paid them $500.......

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

I AM BACK ON LINE.  After fiddeling on this for a week I am back on line.    The trouble started last week when it was very difficult to open sites and it kept kicking me off.  The Altell tech was suppose to come out on Monday, and then I got a call that a lot of the techs had called off and no one was avaliable.  WHOSE FAULT IS THAT.   Where I work you keep going till its done.........He was to come yesterday and at 7pm he called and said he would be here early this morning.  He asked me what time I got up and I told him 5.   He showed up at 8:15.   He put in the new filter and then worked on some splices, and the sucker still didn't work.  We tried two modums and even his computer.   ALAS......  He had me call tech support and they were able to get me connected.   The IT guy said that the username and password wasn't in the modum,  HOW DID IT GET OUT?????.     Well, now it is working fine.....so far so good.

DSL

I took apart the wireless modum and connected by cable to the computer.   It still isn't working........So, the problem has been isolated to the DSL box.   Emily inspected the connections and the DSL cable, it was loose, and  when she reinserted the connector, it is now working pronto.  Must have been one of the cats who knocked it loose.   I have to teach them to not do that.

She got her resume done.......Just have some things to work out....

Arts Festival

The arts festival was very good....The problem was that I thought the paper said started at 10, but it started at 12.  About 3/4 of the venders had their things out.   Everything was very nice.    But it is also getting very pricy.......I guess with the widespread attention the prices go up....  Emily had a head ache and we went to he pharmacy on Walnut (the only one there)  and purchased Tylenol.   I then said to Emily that we needed to find something to drink.....and the sales lady said they could give her a glass...And they did.....The service was above and beyond......Kudos to them (I have to find what their name is).

Then we went to go to Kalils for middle eastern food.  But this was also an error interpretation of time.   It isn't open for lunch.   WHY NOT??????   I certainly would not go back once I have gone home.  We went to Oakland had a choice of cuisines.    We ended up at Lulus Noodles.   The food there is good too.   There is a middle eastern restaurant but by then our tongues had gone on for a different yearning......

Sunday

Another saga into the bowels of this computer.   I came home from work and Chuck said that he couldn't get connected.  Well neither Emily or I could either.   Called the cable provider and they said the line was staticy.  I told him it had been that way since the DSL arrived and the filters were in place.   Well I did a filter search and they all are fuzzy.  The Altell guy is coming out on Tuesday and he is suppose to install a external filter.    At least I have an inkling of what is going on, what about the people who are TOTALLY CLUELESS??????

Call was uneventful.   Busy in the morning and then at everyones beck and call the other 18 hours.   I bought a new remote for the TV.  It took about 1 hour to get it programed.  The numbers they had to install it were not the code.   The code search hit paydirt somewhere int the 050's.    That stupid thing goes up to about 300.   You have to hit the channel up button until the station changes and if you pass it you have to go back.   If I had to wait till the end of the line I would probably be sitting there yet............

Couldn't get this darn compter to connect to AOL.   It kept kicking me off stating that the firewall (Norton) was not permitting AOL to load.   Well I went into the bowels of Nortons Firewall configure and that didn't work either.   My last resort was to do a system restore to a date before the trouble started.   THAT WORKED.  I think this trouble had something to do with the server although they will deny that...

Thursday

Tomorrow we will go to the Shadyside Arts Festival.   I asked Emily to drive because she is better at parallel parking than I.  We went there two years ago, and last year I was working and didn't get to go.

On Sunday  we may go to Cleveland to get the rest of her apartment things.  It all depends on whether I sleep Saturday night or not.   Th next Sunday is an option too.   Tim is moving out the end of August.

Emily is struggling with the eternal employment dilema.....  They want experience, and how do you get it if it is a requirement??? She is working on her resume.........

Wednsday

Got home and  and found messages from Chuck how I am not answering the phone and how many times he called.   If I am not home by 0700 I am still at work.   Today was a dept meeting and yada yada yada.   Looks like the merger is going to go through.   Glad I can retire in 3 years.   So far   "nothing will change"

Somehow I am extremely distrustful of corporate BS.   They will tell you ANYTHING and promise you EVERYTHING and say NOTHING  will change.  You DON'T  have to worry and there will be NO changes.

I DON'T BELIEVE THEM.......NOT ONE IOTA.  We have been down this road before and KNOW BETTER.  And the policy book is something to bring out and hit you in the arse when they don't want to give you something.  It will be twisted and then spit out to solve their problem and get rid of employees that are perceived as being problematic.

Another problem with Microsoft.  Found a note from the daughter and they want $35 to talk to her.  That computer is under warranty.  I may call them and charge them $50 per minute to talk to me.........I am ready for a confrontation....

Monday

Nothing going on around here.  I did hear from the realtor that someone was to visit 2327 twice.  She was going to call them today and see.

The schedule was light today and not to heavy tomorrow.   The past administration seemed to take delight in irritaing the surgeons.   And a lot of them left.  Now that the past administration is gone, they will do more to recruite surgeons.

colors

I have been perusing others journal and now I want to know how they get the graphics on there.   I have looked thru the help items and it doesnt jump out at me.   I see banners and other things???   I also see larger pictures and want to know how to do that also.

I am sitting here wondering what to do today.    The house at 2327 still hasn't sold.   People in other  parts of the country would find it amazing that a 3 bedroom, living room, dining room and two bath house couldn't sell for $89,000.  It is in a nice neighborhood and in move in condition???

Friday

Went to lunch with my daughter.   We had a nice time.  Then we went to CCAC and she handed in the paperwork to have the credits from the two last required classes.   If all goes well (why am I always looking for some SNAFU)  she will be finished.

I spent an hour or two going thru my favorites.  I know there is someway to better catagorize them but along with the videos it is escaping me.   All I can figure out is the click and drag method.   \

I had off today.   I washed the clothes and cleaned a bit.  Now that is real exciting.   I had never (or at least I can't remember) being bored on my days off.   I think it is because historically women always have another job taking care of the household and they always have something to do on a daily basis.

Friday

Some of the videos I can see and some I can not.   I give up for now,   those videos are just not that important..................

Wednesday

My life and computers are  crazy.   What had happened?????  I could not view the videos on aol??????   Tried to get live help and all it would do was kick me off the system and then restart.  After much searching I found a number for tech support.   After two trys I finally uninstalled and reinstalled the aol disc.   Then it wouldn't let me on the system.   After the second try the tech guy said the problem was with Norton.  What a circle jerk that was.   Fifteen minutes with the Norton voice mail (which has me going around in circles with options and choice)  I finally got to talk to another human.   He had me in the bowels of Norton and turning the computer off and on inumerable times.   I think it is working because I am writing in this journal.

I would like to know why this computer doesn't want to turn of or restart. It is so slow in starting one would think that I had all the files of the federal government on it.

Now I have to find the site for the things I had on my tool bar.   This journal was one of them, now I shall be on a quest the find the other few.
