Wednesday

Not much going on today.   I am going to visit the dtr. this weekend.  I have a stereo that was my fathers and  am taking it to her.  It has a turntable.   For a person of the cd generation she is really interested in the vinyl lps.   I have a box of them from the 70's,and now she is coveting them.

Just two more days this week and then off for a visit.   Our department was disposing of carts.  The new ones have locks that need to be used when a person is not in the room.  The drugs have to be locked up.   A word from the fda is now that muscle relaxants now have to be locked up and the reason is that they may become an abused substance.   That wont be much of a problem in my eyes because if you abuse them you only get ONE SHOT.

Tuesday

Penn State Campus is a very large University in the middle of nowhere.   It was probably even more nowhere in 1855.   PA  has a lot of small colleges that are still  out in the boondocks in the year 2004.

It is a town in a small valley surounded by the Allegheny Mounts.   The whole ares is related to or supporting the school.   It is a beautiful campus and reminds me of the University of Iowa in Iowa City which is a small town surounded by things related to the University in the middle of nowhere Iowa.  Or at least the east end of nowhere.   They are both realy nice towns

Tuesday

Its been a week since I wrote the last time.  This past weekend was very busy.   Not t mention the week before at work.

I went to a meeting at State College PA/   Which is in central PA.   To get there took 2 1/2 hours for driving 125 miles.  You have to travel the antiquated Rte 22.  It goes from 2 lanes to 3 lanes to 4 lanes, to divided linited access 4 lanes.  That is a really bummer.    Then south of Altoona you can access I99 (I think that is the number)   This goes from  I76 to a town called Bald Eagle. (I didnt see any there)  Then in the infinite wisdom of the enviornmental wackos, the cnstruction of this high way has stopped.   It has someting to do with upseting the enviornment of some bat.  I really and truly believe that this bat species will find some other caves.   Like they havnt adapted for tens of thousands of years to date.

The road that is being replaced is a two laned nightmare with many accident and fatalities.   Why arent those same wackos worried about the deaths and injuries on THAT road.

there you have to travel the antiquated Rte 22.

Tuesday

I dont know where your were yesterday but I am glad you are back. Yesterday we had the furnace guy come and fix the furnace, he also found a gas leak and took the freon out of the old apliances.  Hopefully they are gone.

My sisters and I started out on a project of cutting back the raspberries and evded up weeding the two gardens and made a hugh pile of vegitative  matter.  Glad the trash man came today.  Not much really going on.

Going to a conference this weekend.  It is at Penn State.  Everyone raves about how nice it is there.  Well, I am going to see for myself.

Sunday

Back to work on 2327.   Tomorrow I am meeting with a man who will empty the freeon on two applianiances  that are stashed in my dads basement.   Why would anyone keep appliances that did not work.   I knowthey didnt work becuse my father would not have replaced them if they did.   There is also a gold gas stove that is in the laundry room.   Have yet to figure that one out.

The furnace guy is also going to check the furnace.

Sunday

What happened to yesterday.   Since I am in the over 50 crowd, as is a lot of coworkers, we formed a Red Hat Lady Chapter.  We looked online and could not find anyone who would accept all the women that were interested in joining.  So my friend Rosemary started a chapter.   The first few times I could not go.   But this time we went to see the River City Brass Band.   They were really good.   They all kinds of brass instruments that I didnt know existed.

NEXT THEY are planning a tour of Pgh and then dinner out.  Dont know about November or December.

It is easy to write in this journal when it is the only game in town.   Just heard from my dtr.  It is not raining in Cleveland, but she said it is cold and she has on a hooded sweatshirt and is considering turning on the heat.

Told her about the flooding here in PA.   Guess I will have to wait till the electricity goes back on to watch the news.   The lights are flickering and the screen on the computer is not as bright.

Think I will go and pour that glass of wine...........

He forgot that there was a grate covering the drain.  Not to mention that a toddler may fit but a not an adult.   Two hours when he looked out he noticed that the water was overflowing again.  Again he went out and did the same thing.   The small ravine is not on my property, but the neighbors who. yard backs onto it.  They throw all kinds of leaves, tires, beer cans and who knows what else.   I guess the boro is responsible but how in the world could you get them to come tonight,.   It is easier to do it oneself than wait to be flooded.

This is the worst rainfall and flood since they have been keeping records.  They Want "W" to declair it a federal disaster area.  If he doesnt a lot of people will remember that come November..............

Another thing, why does the electricity go out but not the phone line.   I am connected because the ISP is dial up.   If it were on the broadband I guess it would be out too.   I am glad it is not too cold or to hot.

Maybe time for a glass of wine.

Friday

This has to be the weirdest thing.   The power is out and I am typing by candlelight.  Sort of feel like old Abe.   LOL

This has to be one for the record books here in Pgh Pa.  It has been raining since 4 am and it it now.  8:30 pm.  This has rained over 5 inches of rain.   Mostly from Ivan, but also a cold front is coming throught and adding to the mess.  We have just lost power.  But do to the battery and phone lines I am able to go on line and type this.

The flooding in Western Pa is absolutly unbelievable.   People who refuse to evacuate and then the rescue people put their lives on the line rescuing these fools is really unbelievable.   Talk about mass doses of denial.   It is really astonishing the power of stupidity in masses of people.

In the back of our yard is a little gully with an easement under the plan.  This had overflowed once before that I can recall.   Today I heard a tapping on my back door and my neighbor was there, the gully was overflowing and she was afraid that it would flood her basement.  It had done that before.

Well, Chuck, bless his heart, went out there and the water was almost mid thigh.  He was probling the gully looking for the storm drain and when he released it there was a giant sucking sound.  He was worried we would get swept away.  Till I reminded him he was too big to go

Monday

As my usual Monday foray (hope that is spelled correctly)  my two brothers and I were cleaning out 2327 again.   We are starting to look like we are making some progress. Throwing out your parents stuff is really cause for deression.    I will never get over how he hoarded stuff that was only valueable to him.

My dtr wants the stereo components.   I think that all she needs is the amp and turntable and two speakers.   Those speakers are Bose no less.   I also have the component cabinet.   She wil never use the radio and casette.   That is probably antiquated anyway.

Back to work tomorrow.   I am on call Thursday and off  for a few days.  I think I will take  my vacations on the weks that I have no call. Working 5 days in a row is really difficult.

I think that the old furniture that they have I wil have the Salvation Army come and take it away   All the furniture that anyone wanted either has been taken or has someones name on it.   I guess taht we are fortunate that we (the siblings) get along well, or maybe better than well.  There has been no fighting over things.   I guess it was because most of it was completely useless.

The sad part is disposal of your parents possesions.  I hope to get rid of a lot of stuff that I have packed away in box for years.   If I dont remeber what is there I realy dont need it.   The good stuff I will donate and the other stuff I will pitch.

saturday

Today I just renewed my library books on line and the date due was in October.  Gads does the time fly by.

Sold the travel trailer today.   The man who bought it lives across the street from my sister.  Actually last weekend they took it from the storage space and were going to place it in their front yard.  The man across the street saw it and tok a look and decided to buy it.  I actually thought it would have been there for a long time and it sold in one day.

All we have left to sell is the truck and the house.   The man who bought the trailer said that he might be interested in buying the truck.   The only problem with the truck is that it isnt a 4x4.  I dont know why my dad didnt get  wheel drive, except that he said that he was old and wasnt going to drive in the snow.  It is two years old and only has about 4,000 miles on it.    I hope that one goes well.   Only one more scrap metal trip and then we can put it up for sale.  Hope it goes too.

Going to a Hannstown fleamarket tomorrow.   It starts at daybreak and goes until 2:30.  When a person continually wakes up at 5 am it is easy to get there early.   Who knows what I will find.   Maybe some dealers in  ceramic geegaws that was my moms and grandmothers..................

Spent the rest of the weekend with my siblings cleaning out 2327.  We spent about 4 hours down there  and I cleaned out my mothers knck knacks and the shelves she had stuff on.   Some of them I am donating to a senior care home.   They play Bingo.  They have extra large cards and use checkers to mark the spots.   They will be given away as prizes.  Hope they like them.

On Friday my brother and sister and her husband mvoed the travel trailer out to her house and put up the for sale sign.   The guy who lives across the street came and said he would buy it.  The value on line is from $1800 to 2200 and my husband thinks we should have held out for $5000.  If he felt so strong on this he should have taken charge of the RV sellings back in March.   There is always someone willing to give retro advice but they dont volunteer for helping with the problem.

Now, I ask you, who in their right mind would pay $5000 for something that is valued at half or less than half of that?  What is HE thinking?????

Sunday, I wish it would last forever.   Spent the weekend (or part of it) with my dtr.   Just sort of a getting things done kind of day.  There is a retro antique store and I was so surprised that they did not want to retro coffee pots.  I thought for sure that they would want the one that was from circa 1918 and it has all its parts and is in working order.  I can imagine what that uy had in mind.

I spent the morning instalig Windows update, or patch.  It has a firewall built in.  I installed it ontwo computers.  So lets see it do its magic.  The instalation process took about 45 minutes.   What I have been reading, if you downloaded it via phone lines it would take all day.    Mission comlete.

Wednesday

Had to work today, I was hoping that I would get off.   My life seems to revolve around me having time off.

Got an email on how to put pictures on your journal but I don't know if that is how I have been doing it or not.   I can get them there but the SIZE isn't right.
