Tuesday

I  just feeling like vegetating.  I am off today and tomorrow.   Went to the LDS Church and found some information.    I found my great grandparents wedding day.  October 17, 1888.   Someone submitted them (LDS member) to the web site.    I wish I knew who it was so I could get in contact with them.    I guess I just have to write these things up and submit them so people can find me.

Tomorrow is a high maintence hair appointment.   Then a trip to the dentist because some of my teeth have developed a sensitivity.  It  started after I had purchased a whitening toothpaste.   I quit that tooth paste and it feels a little better but it is still a little uncomfortable yet.   Evening with using a "sensitive toothpaste."

It  is as hot as Hades.   But, it is soon to be August.   Fall is coming, I got the LLBean and Eddie Bauer fall catalog in the mail.  I am going to a meeting in October/November so I will need a few new outfits.   Also planning on having foot surgery.  It has been hurting for one year.  I guess if it was going to go away it would have by now.

An unfortunate thing about this world is that the good habits are much easier to give up than the bad ones.

W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965

This is really true.   It is easier to give up exercise than watching TV.

"There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all."
Peter F. Drucker

I suppose this ranks right up there with polishing a turd.

Tuesday

Not a whole hell of a lot going on here.  Four of the busy surgeons are off this week.   I guess I feel when they are on vacation, I feel like I am on vacation.  Off tomorow, who knows what I will do........I am deciding what to cook for dinner.   There are two choices but the grill needs repairing so I can assume that the steaks are out of the question.

In less than three weeks I will be at the shore.  I plan to take a lot of pictures and hope there isn't a hurricane.  This seems to be another slow season for them.   It is good there isn't any damage but there is a drought in the south east, as well as the south west.     There will probably be one the week I am off.

All the sibs are going.  I wonder how that will go.    Will we get along or be at each others throats that week.   We usually get along.   It remains to be seen....

Saturday

This is another picture from the TN Aquarium.   It looks a bit sinister.    I guess they keep them well fed so they don't eat the others.   I took this picture.  The biggest thing for taking aquarium pictures is don't use a flash (which I did not) and second have a tripod (which I did not of that too)   It is a little blurry but that is OK.

Went to my nephews graduation party.   Now most of the kids are out of school and on to college.   Today was a nice day, and i hear rumor that a heat wave is coming.....This summer hasn't been bad, so far.    We have a few hot spells, but it is broken up with cooler dauys.   Soon it will be August and the windown of the summer of '07.

Friedrich Nietzsche

The people with the bad reputations probably have a lot more fun.

But the greatest menace to our civilization today is the conflict between giant organized systems of self-righteousness - each system only too delighted to find that the other is wicked - each only too glad that the sins give it the pretext for still deeper hatred and animosity."

Sunday

Woke  Woke up last Sunday morning and it sounded like there was a dragon outside.   Make burst of its hot fiery breath.   Upon closer investigation it was a hot air balloon.

The trip to visit my friend was a very nice.   The drive is proving to be longer each time I go.   We went to an outdoor market, Hunter Art Museum, Tennessee Aquarium and the High Museum in  Atlanta.

Welcome to the Tennessee Aquarium

Hunter Museum of American Art

High Museum of Art

The High Museum had a show of The Louvre.   It is  being presented in three waves.  The treasures are coming till 2009.  This visit are things from the treasures of the three Louis's   After the French revolution (Louis XVI)  the treasures were the foundation of that Museum.   I bought a book about the exhibits there.    There was also a exhibition of Annie Lebovitz, and Cecelia Beaux.    I have to research where the name of High came from.   A person could spend a few days in there.

The Hunter has a special showing of Grandma Moses primitive art.   All three were spectacular.

The TN Aquarium has penguins.  This is a fantastic Aquarium.   It is worth the stop if you are headed down I 75.

I wish I had on my pedometer I bet I walked my 10,000 steps each day.

Words

day's Word: Evanescent (Adjective)

Pronunciation: [e-vê-'ne-sênt]

Definition 1: Tending to vanish like vapor, transient.

Usage 1: The noun is "evanescence" and the verb is evanesce "to vanish quickly into thin air."

Suggested Usage: This is a beautiful word used far too rarely. Evanescent puffs of steam emerge from our mouths on chilly mornings and pleasant days evanesce all too quickly. There are a variety of sterling uses this word will serve: "Money leads such an evanescent existence in my pocket, I shall never be wealthy." Then again, maybe it is beautiful because of its rarity.

Etymology: Latin evanescens, present participle of evanescere "to vanish, disappear" from e(x) "from" + vanescere "vanish" from van-us "empty." Akin to "vanish." ("Evanescent" was suggested by Bobby Davis of southern Illinois, who loves the way this word rolls off his tongue. We love what it does to ours, too.)

This my daughter and her good intentions.   (Like cleaning up her room)   Also, money.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Benjamin Franklin

This seems to be as profound today as it was in 1776.

Tuesday

How would you like to sit on these????   Actually, this was also taken at the Phipps Conservatory.

Today I did a few errands about town.  Then we had lunch with Chucks brother and hsi wife, Nanci.    Theya re starting a dance.   They will play salsa music and something else I don't remember what it is.   Theywanted to know if Emily will come and help them.   He needs someone to collect the admission money and stamp their hands.   I guess it is easier with someone you know and trust collecting the cash.     Emily likes to dance, it will be good for her because of that.

Off for two days in a row.  Could have had a third, but I had no vacation time.   Last year they front loaded the vacation time, but in their wisdom they did not this year.  They are Mickey Mousing our benefits.

Everything they said we could have is ebbing away.   I guess after next March they will start to "staff level"  That is a nice way of saying  "stay home, the schedule is light and you are not needed tomorrow."   I look for that to go away too.   I don't care, after next March I will have 9 months before I can collect Social Security.   A friend of mine her mother went to the Social Security Office to sign up.  She said it was such a pain in the ass.   They queried her why is some distant past did she only have a few thousand.   What is that of their concern.   She told them at that time when she had her family they did not have the priviledges and benefits that they have now.  After her half hour was up they said she had to reschedule because another client was coming.     The government is a PITA.  But, we all knew that.

Got the billfor the county taxes.  It is almost $3,000 per year for the honor and priviledge of living in the fair borough of Plum.. And what do I get for my money.  I don't get my street plowed in the winter......Guess  you have to be sleeping with someone on the borough council to get that.   I would rather drive the Subaru........

Monday

I do like flowers.   I wanted to make the type close to the color purple in the picture.   Back to work today.    Working in ortho,  and then onto urology.    And then on home.

I am off for two days.   On Saturday I will leave to visit my friend.   I check the weather map and it looks like sunny and hot.    The sunny will be good for driving, and I just hate the hot.   By the time I return, July will be half over, and actually half of the summer.   The weather this summer has not been as bad as last year.     I need a few day respite in the heat of the summer.   I looked at Chattanooga and it will be in the 90's all week.  With the possibility of thunderstorms.........

Emily will go to Cleveland for a few days.    I hope she has a good time there.   She doesn't realize that the friends she had in college will slowly fade away till they are people you have on your Christmas Card list.  Just like the ones in High School faded away.

I have a lot to do tomorrow; in preparation for my upcoming trip to TN.   I hope I can get everything all done.

Sunday

This is the spice seller at the West Side Market.    Cleveland has a wonderful market.  The prices are great and selection is phenomenal.   I wish we had a market like this in Pittsburgh.   In Pgh they have a section of town with many shops.   But, the parking is nonexistant and it is all push and shove.   The West Side Market is in an old RR terminal and airconditioned.

Philadelphia has a great market too.    The Reading Terminal Market,  it up there with  Clevelands.

Got the new car.  It is gray and smooth as silk.  It is a dark grey with metal flakes that make the car look like is is sparkeling.   It is fun to drive.   The best option is that it is MP3 compatable.  You can just hook up the iPod and let it play.   I did discover that the iPod continues to play when you turn the engine off.  So if you don't remember to turn it off, you will be charging it quite often.

Found out that the green car had a bad clutch.  I didn't recognize that or neither did the daughter.   She is going to Cleveland this weekend and I  am glad she will be driving a newer car.

Thoughts

"Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence."
Robert Frost

The real definition of that education is too listen to anything, keep a neutral face, and think "You are an idiot; if you could only realize how stupid you sound."
